Cool women. Cool design. Cool book. Packed full of wonderful women from Nancy Drew, to Dorothy Parker, to Harriet Tubman, Cool Women is about the possibility for greatness in all of us. It's about looking at our heroines "at eye level" so we can "see what's truly inspiring, even startling, about their stories-that they're not all that different from our own." Just remember a quote for the back of the book: "Well-behaved women rarely make history." -Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
Author Amelie Welden rocked the world, when she decided to write Girls Who Rocked the World. A variety of women are well represented, from S.E. Hinton to Mother Teresa, all who "have achieved something extraordinary while under the age of twenty." Along with stories and quotes of well-known women, future world-rockers are included, each explaining how they will one-day rock the world. Weldon reminds readers to remember the words of a famous girl speaker Anna Dickinson, "The world belongs to those who take it."
On a different note, I wanted to include a book for parents and their daughters that provides information about the changes in girls' bodies. From Joan of Arc to Amelia Earhart, all women experience, sooner or later, this rite of passage. With candid explanations and simple illustrations, Period prepares girls and their parents with specific advice about important matters such as menstrual cycles, pelvic examinations, and even more importantly, feelings. Period answers questions and relates information that parents and girls can really use.
